A steel architectural treehouse

A treehouse structure for Nando’s in Bridgend’s shopping centre

Background

Customised Sheet Metal was approached by a client who required something bespoke for the refurbishment of Nando’s at the Bridgend shopping centre. The restaurant chain wanted a tree house structure to be designed, manufactured, and built in the shopping centre to impress passers-by and diners.

Challenge

The biggest challenge of this project was to use the construction that was already in place to then attach the steel treehouse to.

The plan for the treehouse was that it would be a large architectural piece. Due to the size of the project, this brought up additional challenges to the installation phase of the project.

Solution

The process of completing this piece began with surveys to establish the sizes and dimensions of the treehouse, as well as considering how the team would use the existing space as best as possible.

The second stage was to produce sketches and drawings by the design team in collaboration with the architect designer.

The next stage was to create the final treehouse. To manufacture the project, tooling and forms were designed to produce the curved profiles which form the shape.

Finally, the last stage in the process was to install the piece in line with the restaurant’s requirements. The installation took place during a night shift to cause as little disruption to the general public as possible.

Results

The client was thrilled with the final structure, which was then woven with wicker to create a treehouse effect.
